We didn’t stop Boris

After 2nd preferences were taken into account, Boris was elected Mayor of London with 1168738 votes vs 1028966 for Ken - a majority of 139772.

The speeches are still going on. Boris fumbled through his of course. Let’s just hope he gets a good team around him. He did seem to offer Ken a job so hopefully it won’t just be a case of clearing out the old administration and all their experience in one sweep.

Thanks for trying, Boris-stoppers. Let’s continue to work to make London a better place. See you in 4 years? Only time will tell.

    We tried our best folks.

I think tribute is due to Mr & Mrs Stop Boris for putting in so much work and inspiring so many people. I think we really made a difference; it just wasn’t big enough.

London is screwed…….. we are screwed. I get the feeling half of the voting population are a bunch of clueless idiots….how can you vote for that &£!”!!!!!

  3. Mr. Stop Boris Says:

    Thank you, Paul.

As I’ve just mentioned over on the Facebook group’s Latest News bit, Ken’s total number of votes was higher than at the 2004 election by some way, which I think does suggest that the anti-Boris movement (not just us, to be fair) to get people out and voting against Boris definitely had an impact.

The trouble is that the Back Boris campaign was highly strategic, very well funded, and had very good connections with a range of right-wing media outlets. So they were able to do the same sort of thing we did with our ’side’ with theirs, to an even greater extent.

    We did our best, though.

Thank you for getting this campaign going. It has provided so many useful resources for trying to convince people of the wisdom of stopping Boris. We might not have succeed, but we did try.

  5. Sunny Says:

A valiant effort, but the harsh reality is that there are a lot of morons out there who subscribe to the politics of selfishness and fear….
Thanks for the hard work Mr & Mrs Stop Boris

Thank you to everyone at Stop Boris, I’m sorry it didn’t work out, sorry for you, sorry for me, sorry for London. At least we tried. At least we will be able to tell our grandchildren what we were doing on May 1st 2008. A toast, to Mr and Mrs Boris Stopper. See you in four years time, we’ll kick the fucker out so hard his hair turns grey, and then nobody would ever re-elect him.

….let’s not sit back and fiddle while Rome (eerrr ,London) burns - i say there is an urgent need for active Boris Stopping over the next four years! All hands on deck!

  9. Anna Hayward Says:

We need to keep up the pressure. Boris is dangerous - can you imagine how he’d cope with a major terrorist incident? Or what he’ll do to PR for the Olympics? We need to look at everything he’s promised in his campaign, and make sure he gets bad publicity for every single failure. Now he’s got the job, I suggest we give him hell!
